Wizz Air (LSE: WIZZ) Reports 25.9% Passenger Growth in August, Maintains Expansion Strategy

Wizz Air (LSE: WIZZ) carried 8.7 million passengers in August 2026, up 25.9% from a year earlier, as Central and Eastern Europe's largest low-cost carrier continued to expand capacity and its route network.

The airline increased capacity by 24.8% to 9.10 million seats. While this marked a slowdown from July's 30.4% capacity growth, the figure remains broadly in line with the company's guidance for approximately 30% capacity growth in the quarter ending September.

Over the past 12 months, Wizz Air carried 77.81 million passengers, an increase of 17.6% year over year. The load factor stood at 91%, indicating that demand remained robust despite the significant expansion in available seats.

Separately, the airline announced that it will open a new base in Santiago de Compostela in February 2027, its third base in Spain. The base will initially host one aircraft serving five domestic and two international routes.

Andrievskii Verdict

Wizz Air's operating results suggest the airline is successfully scaling its business without compromising efficiency. Passenger growth has largely kept pace with capacity expansion, while the load factor remaining above 90% points to resilient demand and disciplined network planning. The addition of a new Spanish base reinforces the company's strategy of gaining market share, which, if supported by continued cost discipline, could provide a foundation for further revenue and earnings growth.
