Swiss food giant Nestlé S.A. (SIX: NESN) is attracting renewed investor attention following two encouraging developments: UBS expects an improvement in third-quarter sales momentum, while the company is expanding its investment programme in Mexico to $2 billion.
UBS: Early Signs of Recovering Consumer Demand
According to MT Newswires on October 12, 2026, UBS analysts forecast Nestlé's Real Internal Growth (RIG) at 1.9% in the third quarter, despite challenging year-on-year comparisons.
RIG measures changes in sales volumes and product mix, excluding the impact of price increases. For Nestlé, this metric is particularly significant. Following a period of inflationary pressure, investors are looking for evidence of genuine consumer demand recovery rather than revenue growth driven primarily by pricing.
UBS expects a modest but sequential improvement in operating momentum. Confirmation of this trend in the company's October 21 earnings release could strengthen investor confidence in Nestlé's recovery prospects.
Mexico: A $2 Billion Commitment to Expansion
On October 9, SWI swissinfo / Keystone-SDA reported that Nestlé would increase its investment commitments in Mexico from $1 billion to $2 billion.
The announcement followed a meeting between Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Nestlé CEO Philipp Navratil.
The original $1 billion programme covers 2025–2027. According to Nestlé's official announcement on October 12, an additional $1 billion will be allocated to expanding production capacity, modernising facilities and introducing new technologies during 2028–2030.
Among the planned infrastructure projects is a new distribution centre in Zumpango, north of Mexico City.
Nestlé also intends to strengthen its local agricultural supply chain, with plans to provide 70,000 coffee plants and support 2,000 coffee farmers in the state of Veracruz.
Together, these initiatives reflect a strategy focused on manufacturing capacity, logistics efficiency and supply-chain resilience in one of the company's strategically important markets.
Andrievskii Verdict
Nestlé remains an attractive long-term investment candidate within the defensive consumer staples sector, combining business resilience with the potential for renewed organic growth.
UBS's 1.9% RIG forecast does not yet indicate a strong acceleration in sales, but it suggests that consumer demand may be stabilising. Meanwhile, the expanded Mexican investment programme demonstrates Nestlé's commitment to developing its business beyond mature European markets.
The next important test will come with the October 21 earnings release, when investors will assess not only sales performance but also the company's ability to maintain profitability and generate sustainable cash flow.
Nestlé's investment appeal lies not in short-term share-price movements, but in the resilience of its global business and its ability to create value over decades.
