Bloomberg reported this morning that Thailand's Board of Investment (BOI) has approved a 23 billion baht (US$688 million) project by Nestlé Thai Co. to build a new high-tech manufacturing facility and distribution centre. This represents one of Nestlé's largest capital investment programmes in recent years and is an important signal for long-term investors.
Nestlé is gradually emerging from a period of reputational pressure associated with product recalls and internal quality control issues. The new project in Thailand demonstrates that the company is focused not on addressing the consequences of past challenges, but on executing its long-term growth strategy.
The facility will be located in the central province of Samut Prakan. It is scheduled to commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2028, with an annual production capacity of approximately 170,000 metric tonnes of Nescafé instant coffee, coffee mixes and ready-to-drink beverages.
For Thailand, the project represents an important step towards strengthening its position as a regional hub for food and beverage manufacturing. For Nestlé, it is a strategic commitment to Southeast Asia, where consumer spending, the middle class and demand for premium branded food products continue to expand.
The new facility will incorporate artificial intelligence, robotic automation and advanced manufacturing systems. This is not merely an expansion of production capacity but the creation of a next-generation manufacturing site designed to improve efficiency, reduce production costs and minimise environmental impact.
The project is expected to create more than 520 jobs for Thai engineers and technical specialists. In addition, Nestlé plans to purchase approximately 4.3 billion baht worth of agricultural raw materials annually from local suppliers, including coffee beans, sugar and fresh milk.
Equally important, the company is strengthening the entire coffee value chain—from cultivation and processing to logistics and exports. At the same time, Nestlé will support research into climate-resilient coffee varieties, distribute high-quality seedlings and train farmers in sustainable agricultural practices.
Andrievskii Verdict
In my view, what makes this investment particularly noteworthy is not its scale, but its direction. Nestlé continues to allocate capital to technology, productivity and expanding its presence in fast-growing markets.
The consistency of such decisions is one of the hallmarks of a mature business. It is this discipline that enables the world's leading companies to maintain their leadership for decades, adapt to changing conditions and continue creating value for their shareholders.
