Ukrainian students and recent graduates in fields relevant to corruption prevention took part in a study visit to Liechtenstein. The visit forms part of a training programme initiated and supported by Liechtenstein and is an important component of the country’s reconstruction programme for Ukraine.
On 28 and 29 September 2026, Liechtenstein hosted a two-day study visit for six Ukrainian students and recent graduates in disciplines relevant to corruption prevention. The visit forms part of a training programme delivered by the Basel Institute on Governance in cooperation with Transparency International Ukraine.
Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni welcomed the participants at the Government Building. She emphasised the importance of transparency, integrity and effective corruption prevention for the sustainable reconstruction of Ukraine.
“Preventing and combating corruption are essential prerequisites for sustainable reconstruction. Corruption hampers economic growth, hinders the realisation of human rights and weakens trust in state institutions. That is why we are investing in the training of young professionals who will contribute to preventing and combating corruption in Ukraine,” Monauni said.
During their stay, the participants gained insights into Liechtenstein’s political system and the work of the Financial Market Authority Liechtenstein, the justice system, the National Police and the public administration in preventing and combating corruption. The second day focused on practical presentations from the banking sector, particularly on compliance systems, anti-money laundering, sanctions, fraud prevention and corruption risks. The Liechtenstein Bankers Association provides substantial support for the delivery of the training programme.
The training programme is part of a broader project to strengthen sustainable mechanisms for corruption prevention in Ukraine. The project forms part of the Basel Institute’s ongoing anti-corruption programme in Ukraine and was initiated by Liechtenstein in cooperation with the Institute. Liechtenstein is providing a total of CHF 900,000 in funding for the project over the period 2025–2028. Through this support, Liechtenstein is making a targeted contribution to promoting transparency, integrity and resilient institutions in Ukraine.
