On 9 September, Liechtenstein Finance and Die Presse hosted the Finance Talk in Vienna. Liechtenstein’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Büchel, and Johannes Hahn, President of the General Council of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, discussed how financial markets can support Europe’s future growth.
The speakers agreed that governments should create dependable conditions, while financial markets should mobilise private savings for innovation and business investment. Hahn highlighted the need to overcome fragmentation in European capital markets.
Büchel emphasised Liechtenstein’s potential to bring businesses and capital together. He argued that the country’s small size allows it to address important issues directly and potentially take a pioneering role in this process.
He also described Liechtenstein’s economy as diversified, with an international orientation that supports agility and innovation.
For Büchel, confidence in financial markets is a prerequisite for greater investment participation. Financial education from an early age, he suggested, can encourage people to invest and help channel savings into productive investment.
The role Büchel outlined for Liechtenstein is to help turn this confidence into investment, bringing private capital closer to the businesses shaping Europe’s future.
