Liechtenstein at the UN General Assembly: International Law, UN Reform and European Cooperation

International law and UN reform are central to Liechtenstein’s participation in the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York. The delegation is led by Hereditary Prince Alois, with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sabine Monauni participating in high-level talks.

During his meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the Prince reaffirmed support for the UN80 reform initiative. Talks with the General Assembly President addressed the Princeton Group, established and led by Liechtenstein to bring ambassadors together to discuss UN reform.

Liechtenstein hosted an informal ministerial meeting on strengthening the International Criminal Court’s independence amid growing political pressure.

Together with more than twenty other countries, Liechtenstein supported a declaration put forward by Finland promoting human-centred, safe and responsible AI development.

Talks with Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir covered the outcome of Iceland’s referendum on the EU, the European Economic Area and economic security. Both sides emphasised close EFTA–EU cooperation.

At the Partners for Multilateralism summit, Liechtenstein advocated effective multilateral cooperation and international institutions capable of reform, grounded in international law.
